Melbourne instrumental electronica outfit Evening News announce their new EP Cupid’s Plan and release first single, Kaboom. Building upon the house and soul foundation of their debut New World, the record pushes further into the strange corners of electronic music, combining jungle and IDM with live-band sensibilities.

The foundation for Cupid’s Plan was tracked over two days at Dune Castle Studio in Melbourne, the band all performing at the same time to capture the core elements and energy of each track. Keyboardists Winton Findlay and Christy Wositzky-Jones then added additional production elements in a home studio to build upon the bedrock laid by the band.

One of the core elements of Cupid’s Plan is the tension between a live rhythm section and an increasingly synthetic world. The title track builds synthesiser layers above driving drums and bass, while the sprawling “Pigeon Shuffle” captures the band's stranger side through shifting sections, progressive structures and a warped sense of nostalgia.
